You have a baby and your life changes forever. I was thrown into the deep end, like all mothers are, and I STRUGGLED! Particularly my struggles revolved around breastfeeding pain. There was nothing that would help me. So when my friend, Celeste, created a product that would have saved me back in the day, I had no choice but to help get it into the hands of as many mums as possible.
Our ‘Boob Balm’ is now an award-winning formula and helping mothers all over the world.

Squeak
Squeak is a Melbourne boutique fashion and accessories label specialising in digitally printed products. A bright, bold and sophisticated riot of colours, matched with layers of geometric and photographic motifs, all printed onto beautiful fabrics, help to create Squeak's trademark style.
Squeak, my first baby
I started Squeak in early 2013. I was a Textile Designer by trade, but hated the kind of products I was making in the kitchen/dining industry for Australia’s largest retail outlets. I decided to go out on my own and start designing brightly coloured, digital printed, silk scarves. As the business grew, so did its product range. I moved into homewares, bags and fashion, my signature pieces being silk kimono tops and robes. At one stage Squeak sold 60+ individual products, and was a regular exhibitor at trade fairs around Australia and even New York. I am immensely proud of what I created, all on my own. It was a steep learning curve, but so worth it.

Everything. I did product design, website design, social media management, content creation, customer service, bookkeeping, order management, wholesale representation, digital marketing, packaging design, importer and manufacturing communications.
The only thing I outsourced was photography (did the first two ranges myself then realised a professional could do it way better), manufacturing (I’m a mediocre sewer at best), and eventually, when the orders became too much, I outsourced order fulfilment as well.

There is so much to learn when you first start a business. Pretty much everything is new. I had never done bookkeeping or website building before! But I suppose if we’re talking about big over-arching lessons, here are the two I took with me:
1) When you have your own business, YOU are the business. You can not stop, because you can’t pause things just because you’re tired. When orders come, they need to be fulfilled. The seasons change, so new products are required. There is no stopping. It’s exhausting, but I wouldn’t have stuck with it for so long if I didn’t somewhat love it.
2) You must have respect for the product you sell. If you’re not truly passionate about it, or you know you are selling something of poor quality, you will not want to sell it. The business was me, so therefore the quality of the product had to represent me too. I didn’t want to settle for sub-par.

I sold Squeak in late 2024. My first baby (Squeak) needed to make room for my second actual baby. I was expecting child number two, and with Bubs and Boobs Co already in full swing, I knew I couldn’t handle running the two businesses AND have a newborn (not to mention writing novels as well). After 11 years, I decided it was time to dedicate myself purely to being a mum, and running my mum-adjacent brand.
